Color Systems

There are many systems to define a specific color.

  • CMYK:
    • Start from white and mix up cyan, magenta and yellow to get black.
    • Used with physical products and printing.
  • RGB:
    • Start from black and mix up red, green and blue to get white.
    • Used with digital products and computers.
  • HSL:
    • You specify hue, saturation and lightness.
    • Hue is the color, saturation is the amount of the color and lightness is the amount of light in the color. Measured in degrees between 0 and 360.
    • This is close to how human sight processes colors.
    • Used with color schemes and palettes.
