Focus on spending all of your resources efficiently. If you hit 1000 resources, you are managing your economy poorly.

Never mine from two gases before you have a second base and 30+ drones. If you go heavy on gas, you need to spend the gas early but building the structures that use gas take drones and you are left with crippled income.
