🍷 Wine

Updated at 2023-05-12 23:11

Learn the basics about wines. Some people might have different opinions, but most important is how strong taste the wine has and how strong taste the food has. Also, depends if you want to taste the food or the wine.

white:
    champagne:
= red fish, lobster, sushi, chinese
        = long glass
    pinot grigio:
= chicken, pork, red fish, white fish
= short and small tulip glass
    chardonnay:
= crab, shrimp, chicken, red fish, white fish, lobster
= short and small tulip glass

red:
    pinot noir:
= game meat, duck, cow, pork, chicken, red fish
        = extra large tulip glass
    merlot:
= red fish, pizza, cow, pork, chicken
        = large tulip glass
    cabernet sauvignon:
        = duck, cow, game meat
= long and large tupil glass

The rest of this note doesn't unfortunately speak much about wines in general, it's mainly a memo about my personal preferences.

Red Wine

Fruit-driven red wine like Pinot Noir.

Lighter-bodied, fruity red wines that have earthy complexity underneath. Keywords are fruity and light, cool-climates are optimal.

  • Main grapes: Pinot Noir, Barbera, Grenache-Syrah blends
  • Main regions: Burgundy (Central France), Côtes du Rhône (Southern France), Northern Italy
  • Goes best with: roasted duck, roasted chicken, grilled salmon

Worth a try:

  • Beaujolais (Burgundy) Gamay, has 10 subregions
  • Côte de Beaune (Burgundy) Volnay
  • Piedmont (Italy) Barbera
  • Any New Zealand Pinot Noir

White Wine

Full-bodied white wine like California Chardonnays.

Full-bodied and oaky white wines. Less fruity, more woody. Look for ultra-ripe grapes and oak aging, warm and sunny climates are optimal.

  • Main grapes: Chardonnay, Viognier
  • Main regions: California, France
  • Goes best with: steamed lobster, roasted salmon, roasted chicken

Worth a try:

  • Any Australia Chardonnay
  • Any Chile Chardonnay
  • Any South Africa Chardonnay
