Social Proof and Quotes

Updated at 2018-03-10 05:59

Social proof is a psychological phenomenon where people look at the actions of others in an attempt to choose correct behavior for a given situation. Like should I buy a product or not.

Sources of social proof:

  1. Expert Recommendation: An expert in your industry recommends your products. A tweet by an expert.
  2. Celebrity Recommendation: A celebrity endorses your products. A tweet about your product by a celebrity or influencer. Can appear shallow in some situations.
  3. Peer Recommendation: Your current users recommend your products based on their experiences. Praises on social media or positive ratings on review sites
  4. The Wisdom of the Crowd: A large group of people is seen to be endorsing your brand. Having thousands of customers or millions of followers on your social media.
  5. The Wisdom of Your Friends: People see their friends approve your product.
  6. Certification: You are given a stamp of approval by an authoritative figure in your industry. E.g. the blue verified check mark on Twitter or Facebook

If you ever need to write a quote for another person:

  • Avoid buzzwords, just use strong but simple words.
  • Be conversational, create an illusion of talking
  • Make sure the quote says something.
