👎️ Pessimism
This is not to be confused with pessimistic mental attitude. The glass can be half empty or half full which ever way you want.
Philosophical pessimism is the belief that human existence is full of suffering, and to much greater degree than pleasure. The core claim is that being born is harmful rather than beneficial i.e. net negative.
Human life is an endless cycle of wanting, getting bored and wanting again; mixed with further pain and suffering.
Not only that pain is more prevalent than pleasure, but also negative experiences are more impactful and memorable than positive ones.
Bringing new life into the world can be seen as morally wrong, because it inevitably leads to more suffering.
These trails of thought lead to the conclusion that it would've been better for human not to have existed at all.
The pessimist's credo, or one of them, is that nonexistence never hurt anyone and existence hurts everyone. Although our selves may be illusory creations of consciousness, our pain is nonetheless real. - Thomas Ligotti
Philosophical pessimists does not generally advocate suicide; you exist already so "what has been done, has been done" and the next best thing would be to educate others about your point-of-view. Pessimists do usually advocate against reproduction though.
Many suggest other approaches coping with the pessimistic facts like trying to minimize suffering around you or compassion to your fellow sufferers.
The oldest known roots of philosophical pessimism are from Buddhism. "Life is full of suffering and unsatisfaction"; and all that. (duḥkha) But the conclusion and tools to combat this are different from modern pessimism.
